Colorism within the black community: Why?

From a documentary on colorism at a university in California, these black women share their experiences behind the phenomenom known as “colorism”. Another flick, called Exposing the Modern Racist Paradigm, is interesting as well, as it dwells on common perceptions on race.

Why is this still an issue today?
