Girl Groups: Can they survive?
June 10, 2010 2 CommentsGirl groups are going extinct — for now.
Remember groups like Brownstone, Blaque, Cheetah Girls, even hitmakers like Envogue, how about Destiny’s Child?
But as the music business continues to die, we’re about to see an unprecedented effort by music companies to compile artists, basically ask soloists to join forces to become groups.
Solo artists are finding it more difficult to hold on to recording deals, especially after their sophomore albums fail to take off. The remedy? Supergroups.
Imagine, someone like Ciara joining forces with Amerie, who’s album sales have tanked. Then they could join a third star, Sunshine Anderson, or Monique, or Monica, or Monifa, anybody.
The question, though, is would you buy it?
