Wayna ( Woyneab Miraf Wondwossen) is making quite a splash these days with her music. The Ethiopian-born beauty has another smash on her hands with “My Love“.

Success hasn’t been the only thing to follow the Africa native, she was arrested last year in an airport for having a police baton (charges were dropped the next day).

New artists seldom make the splash that Nneka has made, but from her new album, you wouldn’t know this prolific songwriter was a neophyte. And, technically, she isn’t.

Movie star Regina King is among a small cadre of African-American actresses we’ve literally seen grow up before our eyes (Janet Jackson and Cookie being among the others) on television.
Born and raised in Los Angeles, it would be easy for King to be “Hollywood,” in all senses, but the 39-year-old actress is as cool as a fan.
Any movie of note within the last 15 years, it’s a good chance that King has been in it, from “Friday” to “Boyz In the Hood” to “Mighty Joe Young,” to “Jerry Maguire”, okay, breathe, 3 ..2..1, then “How Stella Got her Groove Back” to “Enemy of the State” to “This Christmas” to “Ray”, and the exhaustive list goes on.

King has been married and divorced, mostly recently being linked to actor Brian White. But the latest news is that she is now dating former “Cosby kid” Malcolm Jamal Warner.

And that doesn’t even taken into account her extensive career on TV, starting from “227″ up to last year’s “Southland.”
Say what you want about the quality of roles and screentime but one thing is apparent: Sistergirl is most definitely one of the hardest working girls in show business.

If I changed the lyrics to one of my favorite songs, it’d go: “Dish water blonde, tall and foine”.
Of course, blonde is optional, but the point remains: Having a little meat on the bones never hurt nobody.
Of courst the backlash against the skinny little things that model women’s clothes have been going on for a while now. “Real shapes” are in, even if what that is needs interpreting. HOwever, the revolution has still not made its way to the open and free inclusion of the full-figured women. You know, the ones that check the “thick’ box instead of fat when given the option.
Well, let me tell you, full-figured is in. In a big way.
Blame it on the recession or not, but intelligent men have moved past the stereotypical carbox-thin chicks on each and every magazine and our seeking big girls with big hearts. It’s not that looks don’t matter, it’s just that superficial doesn’t matter. And that’s a good thing.
So, here’s to the beautiful struggle and the love that will result in the end.

With the  presidency of  Barack Obama, you’d think this “post-racialism” thing would cool off by now and normalcy would reign.
But racism, racemongering and racialism are all alive and kicking this year — one would argue that from recent headlines this has been the most racial summer since the civil rights unrest of the 1960s.
Not only are we seeing the true colors of “progressives,” “conservatives” and the like, but even African-Americans are acting out.
Four hundreds years after coming to this country, there is still a turbulent debate on what “black” even is.
Obama (and to a lesser extent Tiger Woods) has helped usher in a whole group of people who assign themselves to both black and white, or neither.
It’s a great debate, but the question is does it even matter … anymore?

When you think of the phrase “going natural,” it is common to assume that one means growing a ‘fro. But natural doesn’t have to mean a fro, it could mean braids, it could mean corn rolls, it could mind many things.

Imagine if “getting a perm” meant that your hair was straight and only straight: Misleading, right?
“Going natural” opens up a range of styles. The possibilities end with your imagination. Remember this: There are no limits.

The demand for diamonds has all but dried up worldwide, according to a New York Times story . But that hasn’t stopped the Russian-owned company from stockpiling them monthly and putting them in a vault. A woman that handles them says: “I’m not a robot. I sometimes think to myself ‘wow, what a pretty diamond. I would like that one.’ They are all so beautiful.”
But diamonds are so 2006, don’t you think? People are realizing that a quartz rock can’t pay a light bill, or give me a job. Are diamonds still a girl’s best friend?

This chick with more than a passing resemblance to Michelle Williams of Destiny’s Child and Venus Williams is in the New York Times talking major trash about American celebrities who stretch their faces on big screens to wail for Africa. She’s from Zambia with degrees from Harvard and Oxford, And she may have a point.

In her new book, “Dead Aid,” Moyo says helping Africa through telethons and jam sessions is surface thin and actually hurts the nation more than anything.

“Forty years ago, China was poorer than many African countries,” Moyo told the Times. “Yes, they have money today, but where did that money come from? They built that, they worked very hard to create a situation where they are not dependent on aid.”
