With the state of female emceeing on the come-up these days, Masia One, hailing from T.O., hopes to bring a little Canadian juice to the situation. The Filipino rapper wants the U.S. to take her seriously, and she’s doing it without showing her flesh or rapping about how ill the nana.
Masia, who has a flow similar to sLadybug Mecca from Digable Planet, is youth-oriented though. She and rapper Eternia are on an Ontario tour to reach 10,000 girls. The “Because I Am A Girl” tour will be televised — think “Sesame Street” meets “MTV Raps” – the women will be able to reach a wider audience.
Maybe Chi-town, New York, ATL could ask for a visit from the duo? Lord knows, the youngens — from the little girls that stuff tissue in their shirts to make them look more mature, to the boys who use pencil mascara to draw hair on their lips — need all the help they can get.

“Drizzy” Drake is flying high these days.

Not only is his new album “Thank Me Later” well on its way to double platinum status, but his labelmate Nicky Minaj has the rap game on lockdown without even an album out.

Drake’s “Thank Me Later” numbers are fabulous, considering this is a recession.  With sales of 447,000 copies in its first week, the LP debuted at the top of the Billboard charts in the States.

In Canada the album went platinum after the first week with sales of 31,000 and 80,000 respectively. In the UK, Ireland, Switzerland and throughout Europe the sales have been brisk.

The only other rapper on the barometer in terms of sales is Eminem, who’s album “Recovery,” sold more than 700,000 the first week.

Could a movie be in the works?

Rapper Nicki Minaj said the date her long awaited, highly anticipated debut album will be released via Twitter on Thursday.

“November 23,” Minaj tweeted Thursday to a shocked flock of followers. Two days before Turkey Day.

Not since, well, a couple months ago, has a new artist’s initial album been so highly sought after.

Before Minaj label mate Drake release his album, “Thank Me Later,” you had to go back to the early 1990s to find a rapper who’s first LP was equivalent to crack on the street. His name was Snoop Doggy Dogg, and he was riding with a band of misfits called Death Row Records. Their ace was one Dr. Dre, who is supposedly ready to release his fabled “Detox” album.

But that’s enough about the past. Nicki Minaj has experienced No.1, and she’s experienced hip-hop beef, and she might … just might experience what a No. 1 album feels like. Time will tell.

It’s turning into the Summer of Nicki Maniacal. Young Money’s hottest artist has scored her first No. 1 record, with “Your Love.”
And if this summer’s buzz and the Hatorade associated with it is any indication, Minaj will score again and again.
You can put that on anything.
Not since Lil Kim and 50 Cent’s “Magic Stick” has a record with a female rapper on it scored so high on the charts.

All of this is without an album, mind you.

Minaj’s first single, “Massive Attack,” was quirky, artistic and widely panned by music critics, but “You Love” has rebounded nicely.

Young Money artist de jour Drake was a guest on Jimmy Kimmel last night, espousing his views on hip-hop and working with behind-bars executive producer Lil Wayne.

Kimmel said Drake’s success was happening despite several things working against him such as “You’re Canadian, AND you’re Jewish …”. Funny stuff.

Drake performed “Over” and “Bedrock” with Nicky Minaj as well.

Super producer and now artist Sean Garrett and hip-hop’s new queen, Nicky Minaj have released a new video, titled “Get It All,” for the stans out there.
At first glance this definitely looks like some “Saved by the Bell” stuff, but maybe that’s the demo.

Garrett is hoping to get his shine on after helping other people make hits, while Minaj is trying to lob grenades while people throw shade.

Your favorite rapper without an album, Nicki Minaj has been nominated fiddyleven times for a BET Award recently. Minaj, who’s done everything for BET, including hosted a fashion show, ramped up ratings for “106 & Park” and more, is finally getting the love in return.

In addition to three nominations with her rap supergroup Young Money, Minaj is up for Best New Artist and Best Female Hip-Hop Artist.
Also just when you thought things couldn’t get any hotter for Nicki Minaj, there’s rumors about a sex tape scandal. Whether it’s rumor or not, Minaj has chosen not to confirm or deny the allegations which surfaced on a number of gossip sites.
The sex tape, if it exists, is said to be on sale for $100,000.
We doubt it.
Anyway, Minaj, whose debut album is yet to surface, is busy making hits, guesting on a slew of radio singles in play.

You know, I thought this butt pad thing was just folklore, an urban legend. Never did I think people would actually put on padding to make it look like they were bigger than they were. And when did this whole cottage industry grow up around the fad? Celebrities like Kim Kardashian, and others, are obvious. Now there are even butt pad documentaries.

Butt pads apparently have been in style for quite a few years now. But their origins are still shrouded in mystery. I mean, how are they marketed? I’ve never seen a booty pad commercial. Never seen an advertisement. Of course, I don’t read women’s magazines, so maybe that’s where they reside (along with at the club. Booty pads definitely reside at the club).
Maybe this is just a natural evolution from the shoulder pad thing. Somebody simply took one of those shoulder pads out and put it under their dress.
Of course, the evidence has been around us for some time now. Celebrities, even random chicks, have been stuffing the stocking with merchandise. And it’s a good question now, when you see a roundly-endowed chick, is it Real or [Gluteus] Maximus?
But the question is, is this a fad, or are booty pads here to stay? And would you wear one?

At LaGuardia High School in New York, Onika Maraj was as silly as silly puddy. You can tell from the daffy-duck faces she makes even now. But when did the femme fatale known as Nicki Minaj emerge on the hip-hop scene?
In 2002, a group of eUuniverse employees created Myspace. In two short years, the site graduated to a music reservoir for up-and-coming and unsigned acts to show their work. In 2004, hundreds of artists had built pages with free music for the masses. Like the teenage rap sensation Soulja Boy before her, Nicki Minaj is originally a Myspace rapper.
Some of her early songs pull from the grit and grind of her upbringing in New York City.
She was discovered by Dirty Money CEO Fendi. Lil Wayne personally contacted her, and the rest, as they say is Barbie history.
Flash forward to 2010: The little girl from a troubled home is one of the top rappers in hip-hop and poised to be the queen. And there’s still no album, and no tentative title or release date. Yet, she’s appeared in more than 14 songs for other people.
Her album promises to be one of the most anticipated rap events of the year. And that’s a long way from the humble beginnings of LaGuardia.
